Every two years, the DSEI arms fair takes place at the Excel centre in London docklands and they are greeted by a massive coalition of civil society, determined to oppose them.
DSEI (Defence & Security Equipment International) is the world’s largest arms fair, where arms buyers and sellers get together to network and make deals, profiting from the death and suffering their weapons cause worldwide.
3 year old Aylan Kurdi was just one of thousands of refugee kids killed while fleeing weapons which are free to cross borders. His father, Abdullah Kurdi has said that the attention paid to his family’s tragedy changed little.
“Everyone claimed they wanted to do something because of the photo that touched them so much. But what is happening now? People are still dying and nobody is doing anything about it.”
As Caroline Lucas pointed out in 2015, the global arms trade fuels the conflicts which are responsible for the ongoing, harrowing refugee crisis.
