Since 2010, The UK Government has sold arms to 39 of the 51 countries ranked “not free” by Freedom House, and 22 of the 30 countries on their own human rights watch list.
UK Gov. plc.’s own export statistics report shows that it’s principle customer is Saudi Arabia and it’s largest market (63%) is the middle east, where these weapons are escalating multiple deadly conflicts. Arms are free to cross borders, while refugees fleeing them are not.
DSEI (Defence & Security Equipment International) is the world’s largest arms fair, where arms buyers and sellers get together to network and make deals, profiting from the death and suffering their weapons cause worldwide.
Every two years since 2001, the DSEI arms fair has taken place at London’s Excel exhibition centre and the peace movement has mobilised to oppose them.
This year the arms dealers will once again be blockaded by a massive coalition of civil society, who are determined to shut them down.
Another world is possible.
The Asia-Pacific Defence and Security Exhibition (APDSE), the Australian equivalent of the British Defence and Security International (DSEI), has been scuppered three times, in 1991, 1986 and 2008.
Let’s make 2017 the year we finally turn this brutal industry the way of sustainable peace.
Join Occupy The Arms Fair‘s direct action camp to stop the DSEI arms fair.
